Southern GP Training (SGPT) is a regional training provider for the Australian General Practice Training program. In the west the region extends from Geelong to the South East of South Australia and in the east it extends through the Gippsland region and the Mornington Peninsula. SGPT offers a flexible and interactive approach to training. We are committed to working with registrars to ensure they get the training program that works. SGPT offers quality training because the program is GP owned, with registrar interest being the driving force. Registrars appreciate learning from our hands-on approach, strong mentoring support and regular workshops. The teaching practices range from provincial cities, Geelong, Warrnambool, Mt Gambier, Mornington, Traralgon and Warragul, to cities such as Hamilton, Colac and Millicent to smaller towns like Camperdown, Timboon, Orbost and Leongatha where procedural medicine plays a bigger role. The practices offer unique opportunities to gain a broad range of skills and our Release Workshops are interactive, informative and provide a forum to address a wide range of issues.

The region is home to numerous iconic destinations, including the world famous 12 Apostles, the Shipwreck Coast, the natural beauty of the Grampians, Phillip Island and its famous penguin parade, Wilson’s Promontory the southernmost point of mainland Australia, and the Gippsland Lakes. Melbourne is easily accessible from most parts of the region.
